I encountered this problem awhile ago due to the high humidity I figure, did some internet research, and the information I found worked: pour some rice grains into the salt box, and problem solved – the salt is granular again. Imagine that!
My thoughts on oral exams…
An interesting but true analogy… On the pessimistic side.
So, here I am fighting for my life in a figurative sense. The process seems to me like their putting me in front of a firing squad where my objective is to avoid being hit. Some rifles intentionally shoot wide (questioners who give automatic passes), others shoot randomly where there is a chance of being hit (examiners that want to maintain some level of credibility), and yet others are aiming directly at me (malicious questioners who always yield their swords proclaiming they’re better than everyone else). Of course I have the opportunity to perform evasive actions (ie. answering the questions correctly); however, with the onslaught of bullets (questions), my chances of survival (passing) are poor. I’d almost think my odds are better at winning the lottery, but I already tried that without success. sigh.

Resurrecting a remote
So my tv remote buttons were getting rather stubborn to the extent that two knobs actually fell out. My solution: wrap the button in aluminum foil and stuff it back in place. Although a little on the sensitive side, at least they work.

CFL lightbulbs
So I watched this report recently about how people sitting too close to this lightbulbs get something equivalent to a sunburn. For the uv rays, they simply suggested to sit farther that 30 cm away; however, for electromagnetic radiation, I would suggest enclosing the bulb with a screen similar to that on your microwave.. The little holes are designed such that you can still see in but they prevent the penetration of lower frequencies – obviously the material would have to be somewhat transparent. Problem solved.

Things just keep getting in the way
I’ve never been the outspoken type but when I created this blog, I had the intentions that somehow I could use it to my advantage.. Perhaps take over the world? But alas, coming up with even one paragraph of truly original or perspective content has been quite difficult over the last several weeks. Maybe things will pick up in September.

About the Stimulus Money
Food for thought: The Federal Conservatives are dragging their feet on issuing the stimulus money to the Provinces, and in turn to the Municipalities because they suspect the Liberals are going to call a snap Summer election. Why else did the Conservatives so quickly and efficiently air the negative attack ads? It’s all political strategy on behalf of the Conservatives to blame the Liberals for the struggling economy.

A tree analogy
I imagine that this analogy has been used before.. but it struck me one day last week how our brain is basically like a tree. Consider that all your memories or knowledge are contained within the branches of the tree. Each branch represents a different subject area; as the branch grows, it assimilates more data on that topic line. This means that the individual branches see new material within their subject limits that is within their grasp but not really understand it. So as you age, your tree grows which corresponds to an increase in maturity and wisdom. But, if you cease using the knowledge from a certain branch the leaves begin to fall off, meaning that you will forget things that you once remembered. And eventually, through the passing of time, you will eventually forget everything in that subject area altogether so the branch will die and fall off.
